MC Industrial Wins AGC Keystone Award

MC Industrial’s ConocoPhillips Wood River Refinery Wastewater Treatment Upgrade is a winner for a 2010 AGC of St. Louis Keystone Award.

The annual Keystone Awards program honors the achievements of St. Louis construction firms and their employees in building the facilities that support and enhance the quality of life in Greater St. Louis. Keystone Award recipients are judged on their excellence in providing solutions to unique obstacles and challenges specific to their project. The MC Industrial team won in the “General contractor/industrial construction project under $40 million category.”

The judge's commented, “MC Industrial has a highly successful track record with ConocoPhillips Wood River Refinery, and this wastewater treatment upgrade allowing increased capacity while achieving critical environmental compliance requirements is a stellar contribution to that record.  MC Industrial effectively dealt with an array of technical challenges, unforeseen conditions, and site constrictions through innovation and teamwork.”

The ConocoPhillips wastewater plant completion was a high priority for the owner due to the EPA Consent Decree. Any delays would have greatly impacted the coker and refinery expansion (CORE) project.

The solids handling equipment and wastewater treatment plant ultimately improved the quality of the water leaving the facility including advanced technology to remove nitrates from the water. The wastewater treatment plant upgrade allows the refinery to meet the local demand for fuel and to provide fuel products that meet clean air regulations. In addition, the local community benefits from cleaner air.

“We're honored to be recognized among our peers for this project,” said Tom Felton, president of MC Industrial. “We were presented with a number of significant challenges, including the need to work inside an operating refinery. Our team successfully met all its challenges to deliver an outstanding project.”
